Locksmith in Niagara Falls, OntarioOne key,
every door.

A trade learned door by door

Our habit is to explain as we go. You will hear why the strike is being moved, what the new pins do, and which of the three keys on the counter is the one that now opens everything. It slows the job by a few minutes and it means you leave the visit understanding your own door, which we think is part of the service.

Shop rules

Because a door should simply work.

  1. No surprises on the doorstep. What we described on the phone is what we plan to do. If the door tells us something different when we see it, we stop and talk before going further.
  2. Helping you choose well. Hardware ranges from basic to heavy-duty and simple to electronic. We explain the differences that actually matter for your door and leave the choice with you.
  3. Neat work, neatly finished. Holes drilled cleanly, hardware aligned, nothing crooked or forced. A lock should look like it belongs on the door, and we take the time to make sure it does.
  4. Open 24/7, same fees any hour. Let's sort out your door.

Home lockout service

What we do

The right service depends on what you want to happen next. Keep the same lock but stop an old key working? That is rekeying. Upgrade to something sturdier? That is replacement. Lost every copy of a car key? That is a different job again. Read on to match your need.

Change or Rekey Locks

Residential work covers more than the front door.

Small things.
Big difference.

The key you reach for. The door you come home to. Good locksmith work begins with understanding how you use them.

ScaleNot to scale

Our high security visits start at the kitchen table with a question about what you are protecting and who you are worried about. From that we choose a level: a solid graded deadbolt for one household, a full restricted system for another.

  1. Layer 1The key

    High Security Locks

You run a home office with client files and equipment, and your insurer has asked what kind of lock is on the door. The honest answer is the builder's knob lock and a light deadbolt from when the house was new.

  2. Layer 2The cylinder

    Lock Replacement & Upgrade

Three teenagers, a dog walker, a cleaner and one house key that keeps going missing. You are tired of cutting copies and would rather give each person a code you can switch off, with a proper deadbolt behind it.

  3. Layer 3The bolt and strike

The shop's aluminum door has a bent meeting stile and the hookbolt is jammed half out. The alarm did its job and the display is untouched, but the entrance will not close properly and opening time is hours away.

Safe Opening & Combination Change

Mechanical and electronic safe locks call for genuinely different work. A mechanical dial is opened by manipulation or decoding, reading resistance through the spindle as the wheel pack lines up one wheel at a time.

Which fix fits?

Tap a situation. The answer opens here.

If Someone forced the door and the frame is split.

Then Frame repair, a new strike and a fresh cylinder.

The wood is rebuilt before new hardware goes in, so the door locks tonight.

If They came in through a window, but your spare keys were on the hook.

Then Rekey every lock those keys operate.

Anything those keys open needs new pins: house, garage and shed, and a taken car key should be deprogrammed. Lock Rekeying

If There are fresh tool marks around the lock but nobody got in.

Then A security check of that door and the others.

We look at what held and suggest reinforcements that make a second attempt pointless.

2021 census: what it means at the door

Every square is one home in a hundred.

  • 61 in 100 homes · older homes
  • About 61% of homes in Niagara Falls were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.Older housing means older frames. Wood that has settled for years leaves strikes slightly out of line, so a bolt drags or needs a lift of the handle. A locksmith expects this and brings the shims, longer screws and strike plates to correct it.
  • Single-detached houses make up about 66% of homes in Niagara Falls (2021 Census).Detached homes are exposed to weather on every side, so exterior locks see rain, salt and freezing air directly. Choosing hardware with a good finish and a cylinder that tolerates cold, then lubricating it properly, keeps every door turning through winter.

Short answers to common questions

What happens when the patent on my keys runs out?

The mechanical resistance of the cylinder does not change, but blanks may become openly available, so copy control weakens. Manufacturers issue new patented keyways as older ones expire, and the usual answer is to move to the next generation by changing cylinders and keys while keeping the lock bodies. Your locksmith notes the patent term at handover so the date is on the calendar rather than a surprise years later.

What does key control mean in practice?

It means your key can only be copied through the locksmith who manages your system, after checking that the person asking is on your list of authorised names. Blanks for the keyway are not sold to hardware stores or kiosks while the patent lasts. Each key is numbered and recorded, so you know how many exist. For a home that ends the worry about old copies; for a business it turns a lost staff key into a known, manageable event.

What proof do I need to show before locks are changed?

The locksmith confirms that the person ordering the work is entitled to change the locks: the owner, a tenant with the landlord's agreement, or a property or facilities manager for a business. Photo identification and something linking you to the address usually settle it, and for a company a letter or a call to the named contact does the same. It protects you as much as anyone, since the same check stops someone else from changing your locks.

Do I need to replace my whole deadbolt or just the cylinder?

It depends on what you have. If the deadbolt is a good heavy unit that throws a full inch into a proper strike, a high security cylinder can replace the ordinary one and the rest stays. If the deadbolt is light, worn or throws a short bolt, a new graded deadbolt with a hardened bolt is the sensible base and the high security cylinder goes into that. The assessment tells you which, door by door.
